Bike Racks in Omaha

Activate Omaha has been working diligently to get bike racks installed around Omaha. The city is going to install them, but we need your help to decide where to put them! I started a google map to collaborate this project. Simply add a pin to a spot you think you want it. If a pin is already there, add another! This way we can keep track. Try to find 10 spots in Omaha that would be good. If you can, tell us why it is a good place for a rack.

For reference, I have a map of existing bike racks that I've encountered.

That is great Scott! What I think we will do is overlay your map to see the placement of existing racks.

Hey Skinny D:

Nice job on the map. Some comments: there is a bike rack on the east side of the Saddle Creeek complex. I'd love to see racks out on front of Slowdown and the Filmstreams, though.

Wholner's does have a small rack, and I think there's one near the parking garage. I agree that Aksarben Village should feature racks in the way that Midtown Crossing does.

There are bike racks near the bus stop at the BK Bridge, and a few more on the trail underneath the bridge.

Send me your email address and I'll add you as a collaborator on the map of existing racks. scottredd@yahoo.com

Thanks for doing this!

I'm not sure if you've purchased the racks or not already, but I figured it's worthwhile to mention that you might try to source racks made of square tubing (I'm assuming these are the upside-down 'u' shape that is ubiquitous elsewhere?). Square tubes are much more difficult to cut that the rounded. The rounded racks are easier to cut through than a ulock. Other cities learned the hard way...
