Since we're on the topic of parking.

I was once again thrilled to arrive at Hy-Vee only to find the one available parking spot had been taken while the rest was reserved for Bar-B-Que parking.

If you're interested in getting one of the few bike racks in Omaha given back to bikes, write Hy-vee, the store is Omaha #1, 51st and Center. I thanked them kindly for providing a bike rack and asked that they allow it to be used for it's intended purpose.
Needless to say the trip was still a success. Fresh veggies from local farms (corn and bell peppers are looking good), chicken breast and a bottle of 10 year Speyburn Highland single malt.

RD, you might need to swing by after the ride Sunday.

Right on.

When I first started utility cycling, I emailed Hy-Vee and thanked them for their rack. I got back a nice response thanking me for the contact.

Recently I snapped a similar photo and planned to write a blog post, but never got around to it.

It's sad that the use as "bike parking for customers" is secondary to securing the smelly outdoor cooking equipment. Especially, since I've seen as many as half a dozen bikes at Hy-Vee at the same time on occasion.

So, I think I will write them back and let them know I'd like to be able to use the rack again.

Done. Friendly note sent via their web form. Thanks for bringing this up, Mark.

did you say single malt and then something about some store?

Hy-Vee corporate seems very responsive. I've already received a reply from their offices, along with a short email exchange with some more comments and ideas for a solution.

Let's see if the local management works the same way.

I wrote them as well. Quick and courteous response.

I got a response back from the local manager. They said they were ordering a better rack that could hold nine bikes.

I got a similarly quick response back. Cruised by today and one of the grills is gone so two bikes can now park.
