Monkey Around With The Guerrilla Trail Crew

What are you doing Sunday? Maybe you'll be recovering from a good pedal mashing on sunny and warm (high 30s?) Saturday. Maybe you'll be wanting to finally get out of the house after weeks of being snowbound and stir crazy.

If you want some easy riding that includes some upper body strength training and lots of comradery, consider spending a few hours monkeying around with the Guerrilla Trail Crew? In addition to working out your arms and back slinging wet, heavy snow with a shovel, you'll be working out your heart by giving a little something to the community.

Maybe you don't ride trails, but a lot of people do; for fitness, recreation, and transportation. This sort of volunteer action also helps send a message to the community and to local officials that people care about access to the trails all year long.

Keystone Trail Robbery

WOWT reports that at 2:30am, Friday, July 10, an Omaha man was beaten and robbed while cycling on the Keystone Trail near 68th and Q.

Personally, I wouldn't ride any trail during these hours (technically, these trails are operated as "parks" and are subject to hours of operation), but would rather ride the streets. With street riding, there are more eyes out, plus a cyclist has more opportunities for escape routes should the situation turn foul.

Just remember, if you are riding the streets at night, you need lights to see by, and more importantly, to be seen by. It's also the law in Nebraska to have a forward facing white light if you ride at night.

Bicyclist Injured In Baseball-Bat Attack

Steven Wurtele Says Attacker Jumped Out Of Passing Car

Police are looking for the person who severely injured a bicyclist with a baseball bat.

Steven Wurtele Jr., 20, said he was riding his bike near 48th and Q streets on Friday when someone jumped out of the window of a passing car and hit him in the face with the bat.

The impact fractured Wurtele's sinus cavity, he said. He also had to get stitches over his eye.

Police did not release a description of the person they're looking for in connection with the attack.

To the suspects that most likely will not be caught: I hope nothing bad happens to you because of your beyond foolish actions. I, instead, hope that someone near and dear suffers in the way you made a complete stranger suffer. You will get yours no matter what, but I hope you have to live with someone else suffering in your life first you spineless imp. I mean seriously?

Yet another reason to get a gun holster on my bike.
