Cyclocross weekend. Anyone have an insight?

I'm kicking around the idea of entering my first cyclocross race the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. The Nebraska Cyclocross Weekend races. My question is for those who've competed in this race in past years. Firstly, how laid back is this race? Are we talking costumes, beer zones and shenanigans? Or is it skin suits and carbon wheels all the way? I ask this because I'm not interested in the latter. Beyond what the nebraskacyclingnews.com site shows, there is very little information out there.

Anyone got the skinny??? Mod?

i would say the Lincoln one is a bit more crazy then the one at Swanson..

It's a little bit of both, but more on the serious side. Cross dress races are usually reserved for halloween.

racing is a serious activity for serious people

...well if that's the case then I might just get in the way.

I haven't taken training serious this year, so competing in a "real" race may not be smart.

I'm probably best suited for Sunday's alleycat and movie night pub-crawl. That's more my speed right now.

Nobody in the Cat. 4 race is going to be decked out in skin suit/carbon wheels. Don't sweat it. If you're worried about being in the way, line up in the back to begin with.

The guys with a race goal can go off the front and you can do your thing.

Yeah, I would call it a mellow family event. At least around the start/finish area. I haven't been out around the course where "family oriented" eyes could disapprove of fun cyclocross behavior. I guess I could put it, we don't have a hooligan hill, like Lincoln does. There's still people that show up just to have fun, but not many shenanigans go on.
