I dunno. 80 peeps out on a rainy cold day on the bike seems like a lot. We(Bryan, Brady, Paul, Lucas, and I) were all just packing it in from our ride right about as that thing was starting. And I was definitely done with the cold and rain at that point. I do kinda wish we coulda made it over there though. Is this going to be a monthly thing, or just a one timer?

Uh... I was sleeping that day. Oh, I did go out and get the mail though.

In my defense, it didn't even know this thing existed or I probably would have attended.

Grats on the new blog home.

THE EVENT THAT TOOK PLACE SATURDAY WAS AN EXCELLENT STEP FOR OMAHA. IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE KIDS AND FAMILIES CAN LEARN THE JOY OF BIKES IN CRAP WEATHER I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!!
80 PEOPLE THATS MORE THAN CRANKSGIVING, AWESOME JOB OMAHA, TRULY EPIC. BUT WHY STOP THERE.

I VE PONDERED HOW TO CHANGE THE CITY IN WHICH I CALL HOME. AND I TRIED A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS, RIDING WITH PEOPLE, TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO COMMUTE, THEN WHEN LIFE GOES SOUR, YOU TEND TO WITHDRAW INTO SECLUSION.

SO I STARTED RIDING LIKE A PUNK,STOOPID CRAZY KID HOPPED UP ON TOO MANY LUCAS BRUNELLE VIDEOS. THEN I STARTED DELIVERING, WHICH GAVE ME THIS ENTIRELY NEW ASPECT OF CYCLING IN OMAHA. BUT THROUGH COMMUNITY AND A REALLY UNFORGETTABLE WEEKEND CONVERSATION I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I NEED TO BE THAT VOICE, THAT SPARK.

I WANNA SEE COLLEGE KIDS
OUT ON FIXIES COMMUTING
CAMPUSES A FLUTTER W/ LOCKED BIKES
HECK IT WOULD SURE HELP UNO WITH THEIR LITTLE PARKING DILEMMA

I WANNA SAY HELLO TO MORE FOLKS WHEN I PEDAL IN THE STREETS
NOT JUST BE A LONE RANGER OUT ON THE BIKE
NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH PAVED TRAILS, I JUST HAVE A STRONG DESIRE TO SEE PEOPLE USE THEIR BIKES AS TOOLS FOR TRANSPORTATION. ITS NOT THAT HARD HOPEFULLY PEOPLE WILL REALIZE THAT AND FORGET THE FACT THAT OMAHA HAS HILLS AND DRIVERS WHO DONT RESPECT PEOPLE LIKE US.

IVE BEEN HIT BEFORE OMAHA, BONES HAVE BROKEN ON OUR STREETS,HIT AND RUN COLLISIONS, HAVE BEEN SUSTAINED, BRUSH UPS, SCARES, DRIVERS DON'T GIVE US OUR 3 FEET, BUT THEY WILL.PLEASE DONT FRET FORM MY COMMENTS I RIDE STREETS A LOT, EVERY DAY, AND ITS STILL NOT ENOUGH. AND

FOR THOSE OF YOU OUT THERE WHO THINK IM JUST THIS MUSIC LISTENING PISTOL, THAT RUNS LIGHTS AND PEDALS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE PAVEMENT AND WEARS ALL BLACK. YOU ALL PROB THINK HE IS NUTS HE NEED HELP, OR GO TO NYC OR SF OR PORTLAND. WELL I DECIDED LONG AGO, THAT I LIKE IT HERE. SO YOURE STUCK WITH ME

BETTER MAKE THE BEST OF IT.

I KNOW THERE ARE OTHERS LIKE ME, WHO LOVE TO SEE A MORNING SUNRISE, KNOW LIFE IS BAD WHEN THERE COMMUTE SUFFERS, AND STRUGGLE DAILY TO KEEP CLIPPING IN, AND PEDALING TO WORK.

I WAS AFRAID OF WHAT WE WERE BECOMING, WE NEED TO LEAN ON EACHOTHER, SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER. SOME PEOPLE MIGHT THINK OMAHA IS ON THE RIGHT TRACK AND YEAH WE HAVE DONE SOME REALLY AMAZING THINGS TO GET PEOPLE OUT ON THEIR BIKES COMMUTING.

BUT NEVER SETTLE YOU CAN ALWAYS DO BETTER!

I GUESS THE SNOB IN ME WANTS IT TO BE DIFFERENT, NOT MADE UP OF FOLKS WHO DRIVE THEIR CARS TO MAYOR RIDES, AND PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CEREMONIES.LETS PEDAL OUR BIKES TO RACES AND DIRT, LETS PEDAL TO A FRIENDS HOUSE OR FOR COFFEE.

WE CAN DO THIS BY:
DOING THINGS THAT MAY SEEM CRAZY TO MOST, DARING TO BE DIFFERENT BY TAKING THOSE CAUTIONARY STREETS AS SEEN IN OR BIKING MAP. WHERE BIKE EXPOSURE OCCURS MORE TO THE GOOD OL DRIVERS OF OMAHA. ITS SCARY AT TIMES BUT YOU'LL NEVER KNOW UNTIL U GET OUT THERE.

I WANT TO HELP IN ANY WAY THAT I CAN
I THINK THIS IS MY WAY TO HELP THE CYCLISTS OF OMAHA, MOSTLY IN THE AREA I LIVE. SO I'LL TAKE CARE OF MIDTOWN,DOWNTOWN,NORTH AND SOUTH OMAHA, WHO WANTS WEST O?

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I WANT A SPOT ON THE OMAHA/PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COUNCIL.

I'm not sure how I missed this one. I search for Omaha bike news almost daily and didn't see it until after the fact.

I get my own Extreme Winterfest every day commuting, but it would have been fun riding with other folks for fun. :)

Nice work on the new blog. I really think Omaha has potential to become a notable bike town. The more we ride the streets, the more people see it and recognize that it's valid and doable. Infrastructure may follow, in turn, attracting more people.

Dude, I'm with ya EB. I can't rant for 1000 words like you just did, but I'll second your words. My car sets in the garage for 4-5 days at a time cause I'm out on two wheels in OKC. Someday the car won't be needed, except to take climbing trips.
Out.

The event was in Council Bluffs. Mike, it only a once a year thing over here. There a Mayor's Ride over here to. One lap around CB on the trail system. 26 miles if I remember right. It's in the spring I think
EB, just remember that even though people drive to the Mayor's Ride and bridge opening, they still came for cycling which is a good thing ! It generated press for cycling. It shows what we can do !
It takes all to make it happen.
Look how many have discovered the trail system in CB now, just because of the new bridge. Cross the bridge, ride to L&C or Manawa or the Wabash. And the corporations help make it happen. Just like all the volunteers that sit on committees or clean up and repair the trails when a storm hit.

Ah, thanks for the info, Jim. Now that there's a bridge, there should be more of a community. Us Omahans don't always see the Coucil Bluffs world. Where would we look for info on such events? After a quick google search, it seems that Xtreme Wheels has a decent blog. I'll have to bookmark that on my blog.

I look forward to heading over for the Mayor's ride in the spring.

Cool! Let me know what you guys got planned. Unfortunately, during the week, I'm working a crazy 11am to 8pm shift, so no evening rides for me. But the weekends are almost always open. Post some ride times/places and hopefully we can all get some more riding in.
